Some quick tips I have found from other blogs, etc and compiled into one spot! I tried to keep them “short” and to the point as much as possible.
(1) The “rule of thirds”: Basically, either create a shorter top (1/3) and longer bottom (2/3) or create a longer top (2/3) and shorter bottom (1/3). Following this rule would make the figure seem more proportionate. Common example was a shorter skirt but more conservative top or longer bottom but more skin showing at the top.
(2) Show skin: Showing some skin (within reason) would make the legs or upper body seem longer. It was suggested to choose one (either legs or upper body) and not both.
Along with that theme, wearing 3/4 sleeves can be another way of showing some skin. They would make the arms seem longer.
I also saw some suggesting v-neck tops and thinking that goes along with this tip as well in creating the illusion of height.
(3) Pointed-toe shoes or shoes that match your skin tone: For example, nude colored shoes would match my skin and continue the extension of my legs. Pointed-toe shoes have a similar effect as well. I found this to be helpful for days I do not want to wear high heels.
(4) A skinny belt to cinch your waist: Thicker belts are more for women with longer torsos because they help shorten their upper bodies. If you are petite, most likely you are short-waisted and would look better with thin belts. Thin belts will help create the illusion of longer legs. Some resources said to try to match to your outfit in order to not break up the vertical illusion.
(5) High-Waisted pants or shorts: Another way to elongate the legs.
(6) Dress in one color: This again creates the illusion of height. Some sources suggested even one pieces or jumpsuits.
(7) Get alterations done for better fit or learn to sew ????
